JANE GULL

WRITER / DIRECTOR

Jane is a director and writer who grew up in Southend-On-Sea watching musicals and competing on the national Ballroom dance circuit. Her debut feature film, MY FERAL HEART, 2016, became the UK's most successful 'cinema-on-demand' film in partnership with OurScreen. It earned Jane a BIFA nomination and won best director at the Lift-Off Awards. It was included in Mark Kermode's BBC Film Review, describing it as "beautifully directed" & "One of the most influential Brit-Pics of the decade".

Having started her career as a performer, the UK Film Council supported Jane's first short film TOGETHER ALONE. She has written and directed several critically acclaimed shorts including the multi award winning SUNNY BOY, acquired by CH4, ARTE TV & APPLE TV.

Jane is an alumna of the Berlinale Talent Campus, the Edinburgh International Talent Lab and was included on the 2019 BRITFLIX power list.

KAREN NEWMAN

PRODUCER

Karen is an award-winning producer from the UK who moved into producing following a highly successful career in Global Events Management in the City of London. Her former training as an actor, combined with her exceptional organisational skills and financial acumen, make her an outstanding Creative Producer.

Her debut feature film, JUST CHARLIE, has achieved critical acclaim worldwide and won many awards, including the prestigious Audience Award at the Edinburgh International Film Festival and, most recently, the Grand Prix in the Ecran Juniors in Cannes 2019. It has been sold to many territories internationally, including Amazon in the USA and, most recently, to SKY cinema in the UK.

Hidden Door Productions has produced several privately financed short films, including LADY M starring Samantha Bond (Tomorrow Never Dies, the World is not Enough) and Eleanor Bron (A Little Princess, Black Beauty), BERTIE starring Alison Steadman (Life is Sweet, Gavin and Stacey) and Arthur Darvill (Dr. Who, Broadchurch) DOWN starring Amanda Donohoe (LA Law, Emmerdale) and Paul Barber (Only Fools and Horses, The Full Monty) and most recently during the lockdown, THE MAN AT THE BOTTOM OF THE GARDEN starring Clare Calbraith, Paul Bradley, and Denise Black. These films have done exceptionally well at festivals, been BAFTA long-listed, and have secured distribution deals.

Karen is president of the Timothy Welling Bursary, an award and mentoring scheme with E15 Drama School designed to support and nurture students in their final year of training.

Karen lives in Hertfordshire with her crazy but loveable black Labrador, Maisy, and a much-loved 2CV called Patrick. #2CVPatrick - both star in the film

In January 2022, Karen was selected as a participant in Creative UK's Market Trader Programme, and in June 2022, she was one of only 5 participants selected to attend The Audience Design lab in Vienna in association with Creative Europe and The International Screen Institute

Susie Salavati is a London–based Director of Photography with diverse experience shooting drama and documentary in a multitude of worldwide locations. Her work on feature film MY FERAL HEART received critical acclaim for its “Poetic Cinematography” (Sight & Sound), won the Audience Award for Best Feature Drama at Cinequest 2016 and was nominated for three British Independent Film Awards.

Susie received the Best Cinematography award at WIFF LA for Indian documentary UNRAVEL and also earned a Special Mention in the Best Cinematographer category at London Underwire Film Festival for short film TWITCHER.

Susie’s documentary work continues with BIFA nominated EVEN WHEN I FALL supported by Sundance, award winning BBC series WHERE IN THE WORLD and BFI backed WHITE RIOT currently in cinemas.

Her current range of drama projects include GHOSTED starring Alison Steadman and HAYLEY ALIEN starring Karla Crome and Gemma Arterton produced by Rebel Park Productions.

Ben Cogan has worked in casting for 20 years. He began as a casting assistant for many shows (including EASTENDERS, HOLBY CITY, and WAKING THE DEAD) before becoming the casting director for Doctors in 2002. 380 episodes later, Ben moved to CASUALTY, and, in his time there, 6 episodes that he worked on were recognised with BAFTA nominations. During this period he also worked on the Afternoon Play series, KISS OF DEATH and various short films - one of which (WISH 143) was nominated for an Oscar.

Since going freelance in 2015 Ben has cast numerous films including the award winning, JUST CHARLIE, LADY M, TRENDY and TV shows such as BAFTA nominated APPLE TEE HOUSE as well as the additional child casting of HIS DARK MAATERIALS to name a few.

MUSIC SUPERVISOR

Benjamin Gerstein is a London-based editor whose been working in the industry for over 10 years.

He graduated with an MA in editing from the National Film and Television School as the David Lean Scholar and he's cut projects across documentary, fiction & commercial formats.

Films he has worked on have screened in festivals all over the world and gone on to win numerous awards, including Jane Gull's directorial debut MY FERAL HEART.

Rob Flanagan is the drummer for Some Velvet Morning, whose credits include music for the movies KICK-ASS & FILTH and, most recently, a Europe-wide advert for Renault Megane.

In addition to crowdfunding £100,000 of fan investment for the band's second LP," Allies," which was released in 2012 and featured a reworked version of the stadium anthem "How to Start a Revolution," Rob's other business interests have been focused on music publishing, where he has worked with Cutting Edge, Cooking Vinyl, Manfred Mann, The Yardbirds, Altitude Music and Bill Bailey amongst others.

Rob recently was the music supervisor on KAT AND THE BAND, providing the original soundtrack with Some Velvet Morning.

Rob also runs music workshops for the homeless charity, St. Mungos.
